Historical Ecology

Our lab is interested in using non-traditional data sources to explore historical ecosystems. We have a variety of projects including using shark toothed weapons to explore Pacific coral reefs, to using the logs of Yankee whalers to understand the terrestrial impacts of marine fisheries. Students in the lab have recently published work using historical maps to track changes in coral and mangrove cover in Fiji
